Remembering Mike Kammerman
It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we share this news of the unexpected passing of our longtime, beloved colleague, Mike Kammerman. To say this is a significant loss feels insufficient, as his absence will be felt far beyond the walls of our College and the communities he served.
Mike joined the Department of Nurse Anesthesia in 2009, following a decade of service as the simulation and weapons of mass destruction technician in the VCU Health Emergency Department. Over the years, he truly became the cornerstone of our simulation efforts – bringing state-of-the-art technology and immersive learning experiences for students across Virginia. Mike’s dedication not only elevated our department, but the College as a whole. In addition, he was an extraordinary mentor, educator, and dear friend. His contributions will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
We are truly grateful for Mike's time and dedication to CHP, and the countless lives he influenced through his work and friendship. Mike’s exuberance, energy, and innovative spirit were unmatched, and his positivity and excitement spread joy to all those fortunate enough to spend time with him. We extend our heartfelt condolences to Mike's family, friends, colleagues, and loved ones during this incredibly devastating time.
In the days since his passing, students have expressed a desire to create a lasting memorial in honor of Mike and his remarkable contributions. We will share additional information about memorial arrangements and opportunities to celebrate his life and legacy as details become available.
Together, we mourn this tremendous loss while honoring a life defined by meaningful service and lasting impact.
With sympathy and gratitude,
