Scholarships

Thanks to faculty, alumni and friends who generously support the Department of Nurse Anesthesia and student success, we are pleased to offer the following endowed scholarships for current students in the Department of Nurse Anesthesia:

Endowed scholarship awards for students

The Mildred Anne Poitevin Scholarship - Supports student who are 1) US citizens, 2) US Military veterans or active-duty personnel uniformed military services, honorably discharged US military veterans (including Reservists and National Guard personnel), disabled veterans, or spouses of the preceding, 3, enrolled in the VCU Nurse Anesthesia program, 4) in good academic standing as defined by the Department, 5) prepared to submit an essay and/or interviewed.

The Fallacaro Patient Safety Endowment is awarded to graduate student (s) who best represents a spirit of service to others through a commitment to patient safety as demonstrated by their words (whether this be a scholarly product such as a capstone or publication) or through their deeds (such as exemplary actions to promote patient safety through alleviating pain and suffering in another).

The Marjorie T. Goodwin Scholarship Fund in Nurse Anesthesia provides scholarships for full-time students in underserved populations who are in good academic standing, as determined by the scholarship committee in the Department of Nurse Anesthesia. 

The Beverly George-Gay Scholarship Fund provides scholarships for student(s) accepted into the VCU Department of Nurse Anesthesia program, with preference given to student(s) who represent underserved populations in the field of nurse anesthesia.

The Bernard A. Kuzava Scholarship in Nurse Anesthesia is awarded annually to those enrolled in the VCU Department of Nurse Anesthesia program and in good academic standing as defined by the VCU Department of Nurse Anesthesia's standards.

The Robert "Bob" Lanning Nurse Anesthesia Scholarship was established in memory of Bob Lanning, the late husband of alumna Kelly Elmhorst-Lanning. The scholarship is awarded to those enrolled in the VCU Department of Nurse Anesthesia program and in good academic standing who are facing significant personal challenges similar to those Kelly and Bob faced.

The Dr. William Hartland, Jr. Fund helps support educational opportunities and programs for development of teaching skills for faculty, adjunct faculty and students in the Department of Nurse Anesthesia.

The District V/VANA Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice (DNAP) Scholarship shall be annually awarded to those student(s) in the DNAP practice doctorate nurse anesthesia program who are either CRNAs or SRNAs. The student(s) must be working or accepting a job in Virginia upon graduation with the anticipation of continued employment in Virginia for at least one year after graduation. The scholarship recipient is required to attend the VANA midyear assembly and/or VANA lobby day, speak at a District V VANA meeting (one hour) or at a general VANA meeting (15 minutes) or write an article in the Monitor, the VANA newsletter.

The Brenda Wands and Edward Woods Scholarship provides opportunities for nurse anesthesia students to engage in leadership and/or professional development within the nurse anesthesia industry, at the discretion of the Department Chair in the Department of Nurse Anesthesia.

The Russel H. Horner Scholarship in Nurse Anesthesia provides scholarships for students who meet the following criteria: must be 1) US citizens, 2) US Military veterans or active-duty personnel uniformed military services, honorably discharged US military veterans (including Reservists and National Guard personnel), disabled veterans, or spouses of the preceding, 3, enrolled in the VCU Nurse Anesthesia program, 4) in good academic standing as defined by the Department of Nurse Anesthesia in the VCU College of Health Professions.
