James “Jamie” Furstein, PhD, DNAP, CRNA, CPNP-AC, FAANA, is Adjunct Faculty in the Department of Nurse Anesthesia. Dr. Furstein graduated from the University of Cincinnati in 2004 and has focused most of his career on optimizing pain management strategies. Over the last two decades he has led multiple prospective, randomized clinical trials assessing the impact of various regional anesthetic techniques on functional outcome. Throughout his career Jamie has remained vested in education, developing the curriculum relating to ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia techniques for multiple graduate level nurse anesthesia programs, and continues to serve on multiple national-level committees guiding practice.
Dr. Furstein is charged with teaching the didactic component of the Nurse Anesthesia Program curriculum covering regional anesthesia and ultrasound techniques, in addition to providing hands-on instruction to students in a simulation setting. Clinically, Dr Furstein practiced at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center for nearly 20 years until recently and is now the Chief CRNA at the Mercy Health - King Mills Hospital in Mason, Ohio.
